My son is throwing things away if he is not given what he wants. I am wondering if at 14 months he can have temper tantrums. I have heard of kids behaving this way at the age of 2 yrs but isn't this too early for my son to behave this way. How do I handle him?

They can definitely have. At this age a child cannot speak and their temper tantrums can be worse as he tries to express it through screams and shouts.

I would like to add to my previous comment. Try to get a idea of all those things that trigger the tantrums and later avoid those particular things. But once the tantrums start there is no control so rather than getting angry try to sympathise with your child as the child has little control over his emotions.
Console him by rubbing her back tell him that you understand his anger and try to comfort your child in a way you know he feels good.

Definitely a 14 months can have tantrums infact at this time a child does not have much control of his emotions and he/she does not understand what is the way to express themselves and stress on things and that is what might come out as tantrums. This is my feeling but surely if not dealt with at this stage it can get worse.

I have dealt with my younger ones temper tantrum since he turned a year old. One thing I would suggest you is never pamper your child at this time. Do try to console him and help him find a reason for his anger but do not pamper him.

My son's temper tantrums started when he was just 13 months old. He did end up kicking me and hurting me. What did work for me was leaving him alone for sometime and not reacting to whatever he did. I did everything normally even if he went mad with me.
And after he was 18 months old I started using time out. I think not reacting helped and his temper tantrums did become less frequent.

Avoif=ding things that aggrevate your child is the best way to go.
