I gave my son a bicycle when he was 32 months old. The bicycle is suitable for kids from 2 to 4 years old. Now when he is almost 39 months old an ride it perfectly with the 2 support wheels. I am trying to remove the support wheels and let him balance the bicycle on 2 wheel but he just not want it that way. He cries and asks me to put the support wheels back. It has been a week and he has not even touched his bicycle.
Can your kids ride the bicycle on 2 wheels at this age?
My daughter does ride her bicycle with support. I have not tried removing her bicycle's support wheels. I think at 3 years its early to let her balance on 2 wheels.
I removed the support wheels from my son's bicycle only when he was 4 years old and after that he did not take anytime to ride on 2 wheels. I suppose 3 years is early.
At 3, my daughter was still enjoying her tricycle
.
Sometimes I think we parents are expecting a lot from our kids. I don't remember me riding a bicycle before the age of 12. Now at 3 years we want our kids to be great at studies as well as other activities. My husband also has similar expectations that he should start balancing his bicycle on 2 wheels without support. My son is still struggling. I do not think we should put pressure for such things at such early age.
hi eva,
you need to let your son fall couple of times for him to learn cycling without those support wheels.
I still cannot ride it. but i remember how my father taught my brother. he used to hold the carrier at the back. and my brother used to paddle the bicycle like that. soon my father used to take his hands away. my brither used to ask my father if he is still holing the cycle. my father said yes all the time. few times my brother looked back and saw that no one was holding it. and he used to fall immediately. but that is how he learnt. i think it is mental. as long as you give him the comfort of support, he would like to use that.
take out the support wheels. if he really like to cycle then he will ask you to help him with some support and soon he will start doing on his own.
have dettol and cotton ready in case he hurts himself.
good luck.
