hello,

i need your opinion on my son who seems to be getting more familiar with left hand. he still uses right hand for some things. he is still only 17 months. so it is east to change. i have been helping him use right hand. but it is very difficult. even while eating i tell him to use right hand. but many times he takes out from his mouth and puts it in left hand and then eats again.
with spoon he was very comfortable with left hand. i have taught him to use spoon with right hand. he has made progress but still not as good as his left hand.

Please give me your opinion on how to make him use his right hand for all activities?

regs.

leftright,
If you would like my advise plz do not put pressure on your child for this. Some kids have a better control on their left hand. So, just accept it.
May be you can just instruct him to eat with right hand if he is eating with hand. Spoon in left hand should be fine.

leftright,
I think the various myths floating around left handed people is the cause of your concern. Please be informed that several researches have been carried out on left handed people and the results have often been contradictory. There is insufficient evidence to conclude that such a child is destined to have learning disabilities or is going to be exceptionally gifted. You may try to bring changes in your son since he is pretty young now. But if he still continues to use his left hand, pay special attention. There are chances that he will develop special strengths or weaknesses both of which may require special attention.

Shweta is very right. leftright please do not try to change what has come naturally to your child. My daughter has been using her left hand and I did consult a pediatrician to ask whether I should try to make her use the right hand. Doctor advised me not to do so, as this might have some adverse affects on the child's brain.

very true.

the question should not even be about how to change his habbit. instead you should focus your energy on how to help him adjust with a hand that you are not used to.
