At what age will my child understand privacy?

My son is 7 years old now but still he is not very particular about changing his clothes in a closed room. He changes with his friends around even girls. I have been trying to explain him that now that he is a grown up boy he should make sure not to change clothes or take of clothes in public.

Do kids of this age do such things or is my son different?

I am not sure about the age but my kids did get modest once they could change their dress on their own and manage potty and all.
I remember my younger one did not even let me enter the room when he was changing at the age of 5 itself. Even when he was not well he preferred to change on his own.

I am a mom to 2 girls and a boy. From my experience I can just tell that girls get this concept earlier compared to boys. I remember my daughters have been modest enough by the age of 5-6. But my son was very careless till the age of 8 years, with me he did not care till he was almost 10.

My experience says that it depends on how do you set an example for your child. The child picks up the same behavior as they see around them. So, if you have been modest with your child you can expect the same from him/her otherwise its difficult.

I have an elder daughter and I am lucky that she does maintain her modesty and seeing her my younger son also is on right track. Smile

So right....
I am so much of the view that these things get from the surroundings in which they are living. You cannot teach these things in a classroom or just by telling.
