My son is 17months old and he has not started speaking till now. From the way he responds in action, I have a feeling that he understands whatever we talk to her. He does make some different sounds like "Uh" or "Ah" etc.
What can I do to encourage him to speak.
Many kids do speak at this age but still I do not think that its too late if your kid is responding well otherwise. My daughter had a good vocab by the age of 17 months but my brother-in-law's son who has grown up with my daughter has just started to speak at the age of 25 months.
My son started speaking his first word only when he was 23 months old. And in the beginning I was also worried seeing other kids of his age speaking hell lot of words. I did consult a doctor as well who did his checkup and said everything was fine as long as he is responding to our talking in some way or the other.
The best way to get some relief from this tension is do take your child to a doctor and be assured that there is nothing wrong.
Hope for the best.
Mostly I have heard that boys speak later than a girl child so I think you can wait for sometime and am sure you son will start speaking.
My son started speaking properly only when he was 21 months old. I was very very worried. I even consulted doctor and speech specialist and they assured me that since my son was responding properly to our talking and actions he was fine.
According to doctors and elders some kids do take sometime to speak. But as long as other responses are fine there is nothing to be worried about.
It is a good thought to consult a doctor for your mental peace and in addition you can get some tips on how you can encourage talking.
vina, plz make sure that all other developments are good for your child and if his responses are good according to his age. Do not push a lot, some kids do take time in getting to speak. Once your son starts speaking you will not have any complaints
