My daughter turned 5 this month and still her speech is not very clear. She is not able to speak some letters perfectly some of them are 't', 'sh' etc. I have been trying to correct her but doesn't seem to work.
What can I do to get her right or should I just leave it and it will get better with time?

I think that if she is fine apart from few letter or syllables I guess she will be fine with time. But you can consult a specialist if you are really concerned.

Just keep correcting the syllable that she goes wrong with. Am sure slowly she will get hold of it. Just do not put too much pressure.

It would be a good idea to consult a Speech specialist. Hope nothing is wrong but it is better to be assured about it.

Until and unless your daughter is really having too much difficulty I guess you can get her speak right at home. Talk to her a lot and make her speak and correct her not by interrupting but by speaking similar words yourself and putting emphasis on those word. This will help your daughter mark the difference. Listening to you many times she will try to correct her speech on her own.

You should give time to your child. That is what will help. My son did not speak till the age of 3 years I used to be worried. Even consulted doctor but nothing seemed to work. In the end I made it a routine to sit and talk to him for an hour 3 times and as he wanted to respond he did speak Smile.

Mostly the speech used at home is enough for kids to develop the standard speech pattern till the school age. Sometimes it happens that child does not get enough exposure to enough speech.
By the age of six most kids develop standard speech, although some kids take another couple of years to get a proper hold of speech.
So, I think you have time to watch and wait.

Though you can wait till 6 years of age. But doctors do have a milestone ch a child should meet at certain age. If you do not know when to raise the red signal it would not be a bad idea to consult the speech therapist once to know how much of clarity of speech you should be looking for at this point of time and also you can get an idea of timeline ahead.
