How to motivate child to start writing

My son is 3 now but does not write. Other kids at his school have progressed till alphabet 'G' but mine won't write. I have 2-3 different writing boards for him to choose. A few tracing books in different colors but he wouldn't budge. I don't have all the day with him since I am working but making him sit for 5 min for writing is also a challenge. He willingly draws and plays with his books. Writing just doesn't interest him enough. Any suggestions to motivate him?
the last thing that you want to do is to force him to write. rather take the attention away. move away all the writing boards for a month. and then take it out. if possible call another kid from your neighbourhood and let him/her use those drawing boards

thanks for your valuable suggestion. I tried something similar a while ago and it worked at that time. Now he sits at his new study desk but wouldn't really want to write what I ask him to. He just does his own drawings and tells me not to disturb him since he is doing his homework
May be I should try calling another child to write with him like a group study.
give him sketch pen. he would scribble with it. This will get him used to writing. then you can trick him to writing or scribbling with pen or pencil
i think he is doing much better than your first post suggested. the fact that he wants to write on his own, means he likes writing. and he is not doing it just because someone asked him to do. my suggestion is to let him write what he wishes. rather encourage him to do that. then he will start writing something for you as well. when he knows that you are appreciating his work then he may wrote some for you as well
I think you may be asking him to write a, b, c, etc. Why don't you start asking him to write things like his name, your name, what he eats, what he plays with, etc. this may create interest in him. once he starts doing this, you can also ask him to write something different.
