Better way in which my child can learn

I have observed that my 4 years old son does not follow instructions when he is being taught at school or at home. If I try to teach him it seems that he does not get thing without repeating a couple of times.
The other day we had parents teachers meet and I got a similar feedback from his teacher. Previously I used to think that he is not paying attention on what is being told but now I feel maybe I am wrong somewhere.
Is there some other way in which I can help my child learn. If anyone can share their experience in this aspect it will be very helpful.

Some kids do not understand things easily by just listening to what is being told. May be you need to do it using some practical examples. With my daughter what has helped me is showing things how it works. An example is I have been teaching her numbers by taking some of her blocks and showing her how its 1, 2 etc. Many times each child has a different way in which he/she understands, so you need to find your child's way.

At early age its difficult for kids to concentrate and listen to you. The way of teaching needs to be something which interests the kid. With my child I have seen what helped her was I taught most of the things in a play way. I never let her feel that she has to study. I kept artificial vegetable, fruits etc. hanging in the kitchen and when I worked in the kitchen I told her the names.
I would sit and count her clothes, fingers etc. Similarly I kept a white board on which first I used to draw things with her which she liked and asked her to do so. Slowly I went on to writing alphabets and numbers.
I am sure every mom has her own unique way of teaching her child.
Find one for yourself.

My son is very active and he cannot sit at a place for more than 10-15 minutes so it is very difficult to make him learn things by just telling or showing things. I have to get him involved and make him do something with which he can learn.

Mostly I teach him using role plays. And once he learns something I make him the teacher who teaches me. Similarly I get blocks for numbers and alphabets and that is how he learns. Building blocks has really been helpful with him.
