Piano Vs Keyboard for 6 years old

I am planning to get my son trained in a musical instrument. I have heard from friends that its always to get started with a musical instrument has keys rather than wire ones. Now I am confused whether to go for Keyboard or Piano. I am really confused and am looking forward to you all's suggestions regarding this.
My nephew is getting trained in Keyboard, he is 7 years old and he enjoys it.
I would prefer Piano but I do not have any technical reason for. Just a preference.
If you want that your child should really understand music and has a chance become a musician in future then Piano is definitely definitely as better choice which more number of keys to get an idea of heft of the keys and for him to understand tones.
I have also heard that Piano is always better to get a better understanding of Music.
A professional suggested that Piano is a better option to start with.
