I have been breast feeding my 3 months old daughter. But she does not pass bowels regularly. Infact many a times she has bowel only after 4-5 days. But she has severe gas which smells bad.

I am not giving anything to her apart from breast milk. Some friends suggested to give some water or juice it might help but my mom says that so small babies should not be fed anything apart from milk.
Please suggest if this is normal.

From my experience I can tell that breastfed babies tend to have bowel movement after days while formula fed babies have more bowel movements. I breastfed my first child and she had bowels only once in 2-3 days. While my 2nd child has been on a mix of breast feeding and formula so she has been having more bowel movements.

Its normal for a breast feeding baby not to poo for days from what I have seen and experienced. Just make sure that the bowel your baby passes is not hard. If its hard do consult his pediatrician.

missymiss,
Don't be worried. This is pretty common and normal for breastfed babies.
Mother's milk is an efficient food and should not be supplemented with juice/water.
