I am really worried about my daughter's love for junk food. Every other day she wants to eat Maggi, pizza, burger etc. etc. Whenever she sits for meals which has normal food like chapati, rice dal etc. she make all kinds of faces and excuses ending up eating very little. And when she gets junk food she can have lots.
She is already 6 years old and I am really worried about her diet. Does other moms have such concerns. Please help me on how to improve her eating habits.

These days most of the kids enjoy junks only. I have kept a balance from the very beginning. I do not give junks to my sons every now and then. Mostly twice in a month I take them out when they can have some burger pizza etc.
Apart from that when it comes to Maggi and chips etc. I have kept it to evening snacks. I have followed this discipline and intend to keep the same till the kids grow up take their own decisions.

My son is 3 years old and from now only he also keeps demanding for Maggi, fries etc. all junk food. But from now only I am trying to be strict with his diet. Still sometimes I do have to give up to his crying. But still I feel the best way is to set a rule that only at certain time and on certain intervals you will give junk food. Maybe in the beginning your kid will react. But slowly he/she will get used to it and settle down. I believe that we parents can mold our children the way we want as this is the age when we can teach them the right values and manners etc.

it is so difficult to control on junk food. that is what they see on tv all the time. what will you tell them when they look at the ad of maggi or chocolates.

first time my child tested chocolate was at school. teachers gave everyone at school. how do you manage them.
so i do not put complete stop. but i do try to minimize.

very similar experience here.

in the apartment that we live we have a community of around 100 families. fortunately there are around 30 kids of the age 2 to 7 years. its a very friendly community. each of the families invite other kids on ther birthday. and 90% of the time they have maggi as one of the main dish. and chips along with cake. how can you stop them from asking for chips or maggi after that.

yuktimaan, now a days when everywhere kids are being offered junk one cannot totally band their kids from having junks. But definitely your daughter needs to take normal healthy diet also.

You need to be strict with her and make it a rule that only when she eats the amount of food given for lunch or dinner she will get her favorite junkies at snacks time.

If you have a proper routine with defined time and days when you will give your kids the junk foods then I think it will work. I have set up a routine. 3 days in a week I offer some junk foods like Maggi, chips etc. for snacks. And once in a month I take my kids out to eat out whatever they feel like.

Having this routine my kids know when they can expect to get what they want. And if they do not eat their regular meals properly they will not get the junk food they want so they have to eat healthy stuff to jump onto the junkies Smile
