Hi All,
I have read lots of interesting viewpoints on this forum and thought it might be a good idea to get diverse opinion about my dilemma. My son is more than 4 years old and will be getting admission to class 1 coming academic year. Until now he was going to a school which is close to our house. But now we are planning to send him to a reputed school. So what are the criteria I should look at to select a school? This will be an important decision for us as Tanay (my son) will be spending the next 10 years here. Also, how are DPS and DAV? Obviously, we have to keep at least 2 schools in mind as these days its very difficult to get your kid in the school of your choice.
For me the first criteria that I looked for when finding a school for my son was that the school should have a balance between academics and extra curricular like some sports, art, music etc. This generation will be very much different from ours, now one has to be smart in all aspects. Its not just one has to become a doctor or engineer or some administrative high official.
I looked for an environment where my kid can get an all round development. If a kid can discover his interest then he will definitely be able to handle academics also. Academics is important but its important for the child to find out what he likes to do and extra curricular activities help in this.
I agree with lalitha. Additionally, I recommend that you talk to some of the insiders, either senior students or parents of young kids going to the school.
The criteria I suggest looking at:
1. Facilities (as suggested above)
2. Location (sometimes kids spend more than 2 yrs traveling which is pretty hectic)
3. School population (no. of students in each section)
4. Single/ Coeducation (I personally recommend Coed)
I agree selection of school is very important. These days I have heard that lot of emphasis is on the Student Teacher ratio in the school. The lower this ratio better it is.
I remember me studying in a class of 80-100 students, in such situation individual child hardly gets teacher's attention. So, I think this ratio matters. And definitely we should look out for schools with less number of students in a class. Though I have heard that these schools have high fee.
Thank you all for your inputs.
Any views on DPS vs DAV??
