These days I have seen a lot of international schools coming up. And there fees is too high. How are they so different from normal schools like Kendriya Vidyalaya etc. I have to get get my son admitted in class 1 and am trying to find out whether it makes sense to spend a lot and send him to international schools like Amity International School, Ryan International school etc. in Delhi.

i think the name says it all.
they claim to have facilities and infrastructure of the same level as schools across the world. claim to prepare your child not only for education in india but across the world. many of them follow international curriculum. so if you are looking forward to sending your child outside of india, like US, for education then he/she will carry right certificates with him.

and most importantly they can expect you to pay international fee and have international outlook.

From what I have observed International Schools put a lot of emphasis on the all round development of a child and not just the academics. At least thats what they say. But these days I have seen lots of schools are coming up who add International to their names and I do not think all these schools have that level of competency. So, be careful while choosing one of the International schools.

Another thing as seemingly pointed out be ready to pay a lot of money for the International branding Smile

I would like to point out one imp thing that I missed out about International schools. In International schools the Teacher:Students ratio is smaller that means more attention of the teacher on each student.

This small ratio can inturn have many benefits like a child who is shy will not be overlooked and each child will get a better opportunity to participate in class activities which helps build the confidence level in child.
With less children to handles teachers will also be less stressed and they can pe more innovative in their way of teaching.

Hope these points make International school have enough values to get extra money for us Smile. But if they really do this then ours kids can get some advantage definitely.

According to my experience these school have low teacher/student ratio as said by eva. And this may be helpful for younger kids till the age of 10. After that if you want to concentrate on academics of your kids there is not much difference, apart from extra curricular activities and infrastructure.

It all about branding and of-course a brand is not built over night. These so called international schools invest a lot for infrastructure and are able to attract the best teachers due to the good pay package. But not all of these schools deliver what they promise.

chances are that student to teacher ratio will be low compared to regular schools.

while i am not for the high fee. i do think they focus on balanced personality development of children.

i agree with everyone one the premium that the name "international" brings.

one thing i have noticed that facilities are great. but many of the teachers are not upto the mark.
the curriculum is structured to teach through experience and not through repeating n number of times. and that reminds me of the time when i was in school. every morning i used to repead the tables from 1 to 20. i think these schools will not take that approach.

while some of the things like student to teacher ratio are true. do not have very high expectation. end of the day what they teach is no different from most schools. they do however provide greater personal attention. focus little more on Co-curricular activities. They try to develop a confident child who can fit in anywhere in the world. how much they achieve is questionable.

but children only spend few hours at school. what they turn out to be also depends on how they conduct outside of the school.

one of the key difference why many parents put their children is the respect that they get from society when they say that their child goes to an international school Sick

you are sooooo right. the first question at any gathering will be which school do you send your child. and 9 out of 10 times i have found that the person who asks this question sends her child to one of the big branded schools with very high fees.
