I have a cute little daughter. She is not even 3 years old and I am been asked by my elders to try for my 2nd child. That to everyone keeps saying that next time I should give birth to a boy.

Actually not only my mom and father in law but my other family members who belong to the same generation thinks I should have a boy. Before this I never felt that a boy was important in today's world when girls are no where less than boys.

But people have been saying that a boy is needed to carry on the name of the family and also to be out support in old age. I don't think its really a good argument - don't girls support their parents? And whats there in the name of family

I would love to know who is of the same view as me.

I have 2 daughters and I am quite happy. I never feel that I should have had a son. When talking about family name any child girl/boy whoever does good we feel proud. I don't think so apart from that anything else is needed.

As far as support for my old age is concerned. Now a days how many of the sons do stay with their parents. Next generation will be worse as life has become too fast. Its not the time when we had joint families and people took care of one another. Now most of the families are nuclear. So, better start planning for your old age on your own rather than relying on your son.

Both are equal for me. Though I have a son and a daughter I don't think that son is in anyway more important or loved than my daughter. Infact my hubby loves my daughter more.

I have a son and am enjoying the importance of giving a son in my in laws place and I do not mind that Smile. Though personally I do not differentiate between a boy and girl but the society does and being in this society I feel one should try for a son.

My thinking is that its best to have a son and a daughter. They balance each other in a family. The bond that I share with my brothers make me feel the importance of the special bond. This bond is not the same as shared between sisters.
I am surely planning to have a brother for my daughter.

Its a very different experience to raise a boy and a girl. I have a son and a daughter and raising both was a very different exp. So, I guess one should have both. But its never imp to have boys for the reasons like family name, someone to take care of you in old age etc. etc.

I have 2 sons but I miss having a daughter. I do not know if having a son would have been important but yes I did want to have a daughter. But definitely people keep saying I am lucky to have 2 sons.

Being a woman a child is important for me a son or a daughter does not make a difference. It might have been issue in the days when women were confined to homes. Now girls are doing as good as boys.
I as Mom will be proud if my son/daughter does good in life. Ans as far as my old age is concerned I would want to be self dependent as far as possible.

I have a smart little son and I did want a son not for the reasons stated but just because I did not have a brother and I missed the relationship of brother and sister so I always wanted a son if I had a daughter. So, as my first child is son lets see whether GOD gifts me with a daughter. Smile

I am blessed with a daughter and a son. My son is the elder one so I am not sure what my feeling would have been if I did not have a son. But one thing is there if I did not have a son I would have to face a lot of problems at my in-laws place.
