Lantern Making craft for kids

Ashit has got to make a lantern in the school in the coming week. Due to the Deepavali festival they are having an activity of lantern making. Can anyone suggest me a simple Lantern which a 4 years child can manage to make on his own.
Will such a small child be asked to make the lantern. Are you sure? Is your child comfortable using Scissors as am sure it will be used.
There is a very simple way to make a paper lantern, but for s you will need your child to do some cutting. Will he be able to use Scissors.
Here is the method.
Take a 7'' x 11'' colored paper.
Fold the paper into half along the longer side.
Now make a straight line at 1'' from the open end.
Now make a series of cuts along the folded edge upto the line drawn.
Unfold and glue together the shorter edge of the paper.
Now stick a ribbon across one end for handle and the Lantern is ready.

My daughter had to make Rangoli in school and the boys had to decorate lantern.
I think now it has become a common practice in schools to do these.
Its really strange that they are asking a 4 yrs old to make lantern. Was your child able to do that?
