Should the first Birtday of baby be made a grand event.

My son will turn one in a couple of months and my hubby wants to have a big party. I am not in favor of such a party. My idea is that our baby is small and he will not understand it instead he may not be comfortable with the noise and so many people around. So, my suggestion is to have a big birthday party for his later B'day when he understands things.
For the first B'day I want to have quality family time.
What say ladies?
Its totally a personal choice. If you ask for my opinion I would have had it as a family affair.
First B'day should definitely be grand. Thats a party for the parents as well who has successfully completed 1 year of parenthood
I did have a grand first Birthday party for my daughter. The photos and the video taken would always be precious. I am sure as my child grows she will cherish it. I agree with buggybun that its grand event for parents and kid. usha go ahead and celebrate your child's B'day in the way you want and I am sure it will be special for you and your kid.
Only thing is that due grand celebration my daughter was troubled a bit.
It totally depends on personal preference. You may have a good time just with family at some picnic spot along with cake cutting or at a good restaurant. Or you may have a grand party. In both the cases you will have memories. So, do not worry about memories and decide on your preference.
About me we had it as a family affair.
We have still not reached on a final call in what way should we celebrate our son's first B'day but thanks friends for your suggestion. Will keep you all updated.
We had a party for family and friends in a hotel. Actually what I felt was I was fulfilling my childhood dream of having a grand celebration on my B'day. So, celebrations of our child's B'day is in a way we try to do something for yourself.

I always wanted my B'day to be celebrated so would do the same for my kid once I have one and will suggest the same to everyone.
