Recently I have observed that my 5 months old daughter cries each time she has to pass urine. I have been observing this since one fortnight. Previously I thought it might be for the time being. But for last one week I have seen that she cries just before urination. Could this be due to some infection ?

It may be because of some urinary tract infection. I will suggest you to go and meet the pedriatician and get the required tests done. Don't ignore this.

From what I have observed I feel its common among babies of this age to cry before peeing. This way they want to communicate that they are going to pee. As at this age they have no other means to do so.

By 5 months of age a baby is aware that he is wet when he pee and he does not like the feeling so may be he tries to tell you that make him pee Smile

My son is almost the same age and observed him cry for a week or so and I did not understand. Now as soon as he gives a signal I make him pee away from his crib and he is happy. Whenever he is in diaper he will never cry. I feel he knows that in diaper he will not have a wet feeling.

My daughter had a similar problem when she was around 4 months old and I did approach the pediatrician. He got all the tests like urine culture done and everything was normal. Doctor said that it may be happening because of a little distended bladder and it will go away slowly with time. And my daughter was fine within a couple of months.
