Is A/C harmful for babies

Hi
Recently we have shifted to Chennai. Chennai is very hot. For me its very difficult to bear the heat over here. My daughter is 6 months and she is also getting rashes due to heat. I am planning to get an Air condition. Will A/C harm my baby in anyway or its ok for her health.

i can understand your concern. which city did you move from?
i don't think AC will do any harm. actually heat may do other harms. rashes is something that you can see. but high temperature is not good for babies. and it may harm her in a way that may not be visible at this time.
if not AC, get a cooler. i can imagine how difficult it will be for your daughter to even sleep, is she is not used to such temperature.
Air conditioning should not harm your kid but it is wise to observe a few precautions.
1. Do not put your baby close to the air conditioning so that it is not directly on her.
2. Cover her with something light. No thick blankets.
3. Regulate the temperature.

we do the same even while we sleep in an air conditioned room. so this will be taken care of.
Is there any specific reason for not putting thick blanket?
direct air is dangerous.
keep the fan speed the lowest it allows. direct air also makes it difficult for babies to breathe.
sometime even i find it difficult to breathe when even i am in front of fan at very high speed.
even if you use fan instead of ac, always remember to put the fan at low speed.
good pioint swapnadelhi. such a simple thing but we tend to miss out many times.
another thing i have heard about is some cancerous elements blown along with air from old ACs. the quantity could be low, which is why we don't hear about this usually. but for babies even small amount can have significant effect.
so do not buy an used ac, in case you have been thinking on that line.
