Last couple of weeks are left for my baby's arrival. Many new things keep coming in my mind on how will I be handling and taking care of my baby. First and foremost thing that I would like to know from moms our here is what is the best way to carry my newborn. In what position should I be carrying the baby so that he/she is comfortable.

Most important thing about holding a newborn is support to the baby's head. A baby's head is heavy and the neck muscles are not strong enough to support the weight so first thing is give proper support to the baby's head in the crook of your arm and support the body with the other arm.

In addition to what snusha has pointed you can also hold the baby is to lean the baby on your shoulder and put the arm of the same side around the baby. With the other hand support baby's head and neck. In this position baby gets to heard your heart beat and breath which is emotionally good for the baby.

One thing is very important is holding the baby close to your body which gives warmth and comfort to the baby.

Its always better to carry your baby in your arms rather than using some device like sling. And as mentioned by other cradling in your arms and holding in the shoulders are the two best ways to hold and carry your baby. Another way you can hold your baby is on his belly. Put your bay's chest on one hand and put the other arm on the back to hold your baby safe.
This is good burping position for babies.

This cradle position is the best for babies. In this position babies can look at you. Many bbabies sleep well in this position.
