I have been very concerned about my daughter being healthy and because of this I have been feeding her every and anything possible. Now she is too much into eating. Now I realize that she is overweight for her age. She looks fat in front of kids of her age. Now she has also started feeling bad as her classmates have started teasing her.

Sometimes she cries saying that she wants to be like others. I am looking for some exercises which can help her. I am already planning a balanced diet for her. Do suggest something that can help my child to reduce weight.

I guess the best exercise for a child is to play. Any physical activity is good.

Make her jump. Hang and run these are simple things to make your child loose weight along with some control on junk foods which are kids favorites.

Fitness should be fun at this age. cp222, I think apart from eating your child has not been very active. Instead of regular exercise a child of this age can stay fit just by their regular physical activity. Some of the things that can be done are
- Free play for about an hour daily with kids of her age (the playtime should not involve sitting computer games and watching TV).
- An hour of some physical game under the guidance of an adult. Maybe you yourself can play some ball game with your child.
- Do not let your child just sit ideal for more than an hour at a stretch.

I am sure if you follow the above things in routine your child will slowly reduce her weight.

Mostly kids of this age get enough exercise from their daily routine like chasing, running, climbing, dancing etc. etc. But since your daughter's case is a lil different I will suggest you to go ahead and consult her pediatrician to get the steps to follow to reduce weight.
Make sure that your child has more of physical play rather than sitting game.

cp222, these days there are many yoga camps being organised for kids. You can try and get your child enrolled in one of these I am sure it will help. I did put my son in a Yoga camp during vacations he enjoyed it and I feel his physical health as well mind seems to be more at peace.

Physical Play is very important for kids at this age. Simple games which involves running around, climbing, jumping etc. will help improve their physical body and also is an healthy outlet for their abundant energy. The habit of physical play should be put from very young age but now also its not late.

My concern fr my kids is opposite they are so active that even when I am giving them a well balanced diet they are underweight for their age. Both of them are busy jumping around and playing in the park the whole day. So am sure physical activity will help.

My son was lazy and he used to sit playing video games or watching cartoons. And it was accompanied with eating junks like chips etc. which made him gain weight. Now I have made a routine for him to go out and play with his friends for an hour and also started a skating class for him twice a week. And I see these helping.

All your suggestions have been pointing towards physical activities. Going through your suggestions I been inspired to spend time with my daughter and have started with skipping and hide and seek. Thanks all.
