My daughter is 1 year old now and I am planning to get back to work. With my elder one my mil was there so never had to put him in daycare. So, am not very aware what type of daycare I should be looking out for and what all things should I take care of.
It will be my pleasure to learn from your experiences.
Your daughter is just one so most important thing to be taken care of is hygiene. Check the place wherever you are planning to put your child if it is clean and hygienic.
Check the caretaker as well as I have faced this problem. The place I had put my son in daycare though the place in itself was clean and hygienic the person who was taking care of him was not staying clean and did not wash hand before handling kids food etc. Because of this my son got infections and ultimately I put him in another daycare.
Another thing which I saw my friend was particular about is that there should be some other kid of similar age so that her kid gets a company. Along with that make sure that the caretakers:children ratio is not very high. There should be some specific caretaker for younger children who need more care with food, potty etc.
Attitude of the people who will be with the child, they should be kids friendly.
And off course hygiene as mentioned by other.
Food quality if they are providing food.

I will suggest not to opt for food from the daycare, better provide your own food for the whole day. I have suffered because of food. Once my child was given stale food because of which he had indigestion and vomiting for a week.
