Is it safe to put a blanket for a 5 months old baby? Now that winter has arrived I have to keep my baby warm. I am wondering how to keep her warm in sleep. Use blanket or room heater or warm clothes.

Before the age of 12 months there is a risk if SIDS so be careful if you put blanket for a baby.

You can put blanket for the baby but make sure you put the blanket on the lower part of the body, keep the head and upper chest uncovered. Tuck the blanket properly on the side and towards the feet.

I am not putting blanket for my baby as many suggested against it. I am just using a room heater and I will suggest you the same.

These days we moms worry a lot. I do not think our parents used room heaters and all. Use light blankets and as told by others do n0t cover the upper check and face of the baby. Make sure you check on your baby 2-3 during her sleep.

Thanks ladies for your experienced inputs.
So, I think as long as I use light blanket and only keep the upper part of body uncovered using blanket is fine.

Still wondering what is preferable blanket or room heater.

There are light weight blankets available in the market for kids. I do not think using that kind of blanket can cause any harm. And covering the upper potion of body with blanket can be suffocating for adults as well but for babies extra care is required.

I did use light blanket for my daughter when she was a baby.
