using birth control pills to help conceieve at later age

i have been trying to concieve for last 6 months. i got married early but both of us decided to live our life.
we used contraception all this while. now the doctor says that that had i used birth control pill, it would have helped in conceiving at later age. i do not understand why birth control pill will be good but other contraception methods that we used will hurt in concieving. i thought birth control pill has side effects. but now the doctor is saying completely opposite. it is so frustrating. she doesn't share much.
Any suggestion is most welcome.

you may be aware of endometriosis. doctors usually do ultrasound to check for endometriosis as soon as you visit a doctor for fertility related issue. In endometriosis there is growth of cells outside of the uterus. this growth is usually found on the ovaries, on the outer surfaces of the uterus, or in the vagina.
this cell growth is considered to have negative effect on fertility. if one uses birth control pill then this growth does not happen. it stops endometriosis. therefore it is suggested that in case you to want for pregnancy for long then birth control pill is preferred conceptive mode.
you also need to understand that there are other advantages and disadvantages of each of conception methods.
I did use birth control pills but just because I thought it was the easiest way for me. But I never knew that it helped the way omar has described. Thanks for the info.
