I think you are referring to Copper T. I hope it is not harmonal one. I personally am no for harmonal IUD. Copper Tis very common in India. If you have never been pregnant then chances of Copper T creating problem for you is higher.

Some of the side effects of Copper T are not that dangerous but painful. Painful since these are niggling irritant. They will consistently remind you of this extra metal piece in your body. You will have pains in your body especially in your pelvic area. Headache, pain in abdomen, cramping and nausea are common as well.

It also affects menstrual bleeding. make sure that get it done with good doctor. they will monitor for sometime to ensure that your body has accepted the Copper T. If it doesn't suit your body then the doctor will suggest to remove this.

as eva said, i think you are getting copper t. every such medicine or instruments have side effects. but this is very common in india. so you should not worry much. just get few tests done after you get copper t installed. go to the doctor for first 3-4 months. if there is any complication then the doctor will herself ask you to remove it. if not then you are all set.

I have got an IUD just a couple of months back and in the first month I had heavy bleeding during periods. Doctor said its normal. Now its the third month and things seem to be getting back to normal apart from pain in the abdomen once in a while.

I have heard of IUD leading to Ectopic pregnancy for my friend and then she had to go through a painful operation.

I have had a very bad experience with Copper T. I did use one after my daughter's birth and in the beginning itself I had heavy bleeding during menstrual cycle for 2 months. Gyne gave some medicines. I had menstrual flow for 10-15 days for 6 months. Each time I had to take medicines apart from that I had spotting in between. I had severe cramps and back pains. After 8 months of suffering doctor told me that it was not suiting me and had to get it out. Since then I preferred to be on pills.
