I am trying for a baby and have not been successful till now. One of my friend suggested me to track the cervical mucus, which will help in planning when to try for baby. But I am not sure how to do it. Please help.
The texture and color of cervical mucus changes during a monthly cycle. The best period when one can get pregnant is when you are ovulating. And while ovulating the cervical mucus is similar to the egg white. And during this time one has the most flow of cervical mucus.
The volume of mucus increases during ovulation. The amount goes on increasing and its peaks on the last day when the chance of conception is high. At this time the sperm survives most for up to 72 hours.
Chances of pregnancy is high during ovulation and there are some chances of pregnancy when the ovulation is approaching. When the ovulation is approaching the mucus will be moist and little sticky but will break if you take it on finger and try to stretch. When you are ovulation the mucus will be like egg white and when taken between fingers you can stretch it a long way before it breaks.
In my knowledge one has to chart the amount, texture and color of the cervical mucus. And as ovulation approaches chances of conceiving increases and the amount of cervical mucus increases. The cervical mucus becomes more sticky and stretching and it becomes thin and clear.
To chart the cervical mucus I was told by my doctor relative to collect the mucus by inserting finger in the cervix. After a couple of months I was able to get a good idea of when I ovulated during my monthly cycle.
