Is it advisable to try for a baby at the age of 39?

This is my second marriage. I lost my first husband after marriage when I was 27 and then last year I found someone I would love to spend my life with and I got married. Now I really want to have a baby and am 39 years old.
Mostly I have heard its not advised to have a baby so late in life. Does any one out here have any experience of having a baby at this age.
Generally doctors suggest one to have her first baby before the age of 35. But I think these days there are many women trying for kids at a later age. Many women get married in their late 20s or early 30s in that case they will try for a child at a late age.
hannarev, since you are approaching 40 if you do want to try for a baby I would suggest you to go for a full medical checkup and if everything is fine, why not try and have baby.
Mostly after 30 years of age fertility of a woman decreases and since you are approaching 40 it would be a good idea to get a fertility checkup done.
According to the results the gynecologist will suggest you what will be the right thing to do.
You have reached an age when fertility in woman is low but still now a days woman marry late and they do have kids late in there 30s. There are lot of chances of abnormalities in the baby but if you take precautions from the very beginning of pregnancy things may be good.

there are many things that are not advisable. but people do not stop doing them.
there are subjects which are not as simple as 1+1=2. emotional part plays a role. like this decision. you and only you can decide how much it means to you. definitely keep in touch with doctors for any risk. but this is suggested for ladies who get pregnant at early age as well.
