Hypothyroidism after having a baby

I am a mom of 8 months old and about a couple of weeks back I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. I had problems in conceiving and at that time I got the tests done and I had no problems. Then what could be the cause of thyroid problem showing up after delivery.
Is it common?

Many a times ladies do have thyroid problem but its suppressed and becomes obvious at some later point of time. Many a times pregnancy becomes that particular change in body that causes it to show up.

It is common to get hypothyroidism immediately after having a baby.
It affects around 5% of females after childbirth.

I have also come across many friends and family who get thyroid issues after having a baby.

I also got thyroid problem just after delivery. First it was hyper then followed by hypo but within 6 months things were fine. My doctor told me it happens so with many women and some like me get back to normal within sometime.

Great. I have not come across anyone who got rid of the thyroid problem. Luckily I am not one of them who got this problem, but my sis got hypothyroidism and she is suffering till now.
