I had my ultrasound yesterday and I came to know that I have posterior placenta. I am still to meet my doctor and am not sure what is this posterior placenta and what complications this could cause in my pregnancy. I have heard about anterior placenta in which its difficult to feel the baby's movements. It would be great if you could share your knowledge about this.

Posterior placenta in itself means that the placenta is attached to the back of the uterus that means towards the mom's spine. In my knowledge this does not pose any problem for your pregnancy as long as the placenta is not low lying.

Posterior means that placenta is on the back of your uterus. Mostly placenta is attached to the uterus above the cervix. In some cases the placenta is low lying and covers the cervix thus blocking the cervix and may cause complexity in normal delivery.

Anterior and posterior just refers to the place of placenta in the uterus. Anterior means front and posterior refers to the back. Apart from that as already specified in case of anterior placenta its difficult to hear baby's heart beat and feel the movements. Nothing much in case of posterior placenta until and unless it is low lying which is also referred to as placenta previa.

Thanks for your responses.
I did talk to my gynae regarding this and she said its nothing to worry about as of now. As of now my placenta is not low lying so nothing to worry about.
