I am in the second-half of my second trimester pregnancy. Recently there is some bleeding from my nose and the gums also bleed when brushing my teeth. I don't think I have hurt my gums during brushing and I am wondering if its something related to my pregnancy. Do I need to consult my doctor?

I have had bleeding in my gums since my 2nd trimester. Mostly as I came to know from friends and relatives this is a common thing in pregnancy. I did visit a dentist for my satisfaction and he recommended me to use soft bristle toothbrush and to keep my teeth plaque free as that might increase the bleeding. He said the bleeding will go on its own after pregnancy.

During my pregnancy I had severe bleeding in my nose. My doc told me that it was because of increased blood flow and some hormones. Applying vaseline helped me.

My teeth bleeds a lot and my doctor asked me to visit dentist. Dentist said that gums do become spongy due to increased blood flow during pregnancy and this causes bleeding. For me I had plaque so my bleeding became worse.
Dentist asked me to brush teeth regularly at least 3 times and clean teeth after whatever I eat.

I am facing similar problem but as my doctor said its a common thing in pregnancy. Since my husband was really concerned he asked for the reason and the doctor explained the following:
Due to some hormones blood volume increases which causes pressure on the capillaries in the mouth and nose causing bleeding. Its nothing to worry about.
I have been given Vitamin C supplement to check this. Seems Vitamin C strengthens the capillaries walls.

Hope this helps.

Nothing to worry sunita, as you would see from all the replies this problem is pretty common. I too had faced similar problems.

Thankfully i didnt face this problem but most pregnant women i have known have complained about this. Try using a softer toothbrush and brush gently.
