hello friends,

i am very fond of sugar. In fact i keep eating brown sugar (i call goor) all day.
But during the last test the doctor found higher level of sugar. The doctor suggested me not to eat lots of sweets. I am thinking of taking test for diabetes. I think gestational diabetes is common and not very good things to have at this stage. i am worried.

While i get test result is there anything that i can do ensure that my baby is born healthy? what, if any, are the risks to the baby?

Looking forward to hearing from you all.
thank you very much.

High blood sugar level can be harmful for the baby even if you do not have diabetes. It would be a good idea to control your diet and get the sugar back in the safe range. Sometimes your doctor may give you some medication.
Some of the things that you can do
- Avoid any food that is high in sugar.
- Eat food rich in dietary fibers like vegetables, cereals and whole grain food which will help reduce the insulin level in your body.
- Eat low fat food.
- Apart from 3 meals include 3 snacks.
- A bedtime snack like apple or whole grain cracker will help.

Hope these helps.
All the Best.

Gestational Diabetes does have bad effects on the baby, you may end up loosing your baby or the baby can be born with mental or physical disability. But still you have not been diagnosed with GD. Even if you are diagnosed with it no worry you can have a check with diet and recommendations from your doctor. I am sure you will do it.

High sugar level always does not mean GD but still you should keep a check on Carbohydrate intake along with sugar intake as you should not do anything to worsen the situation.

Keep cool and do not stress yourself.
