when i look at our parent's age, number of twins was rare,
however now a days, twins have become so common. is there any truth to my perception? do you feel the same?
Three of colleague in my team (110 total) have twins. isn't this too many?

this is where i do not agree with you. if you are forming your perception based on this sample then let me tell you that this does not represent the general society.
this means 3% of babies are born twins. and my feeling is that not even 1 in thousand are born twins. if someone can find statistical data then i am interested to see that.
I have also observed a rise in the number of twins. Lot of this are because of the increasing use of fertility treatments for having a child. Day by day the age by which women are ready to have baby is increasing and by age the fertility of woman decreases. So, there is no option but to go with fertility treatment and these treatment do result in twins often.
age at which working people want to become mother has been going up these days. several factors have been on work. like late marriage. working couple. lower tendency to listen to parents on such matters, etc.
based on what i have read, as the motherhood age goes up, chances of twins increases. this is irrespective of usage of infertility treatment.
As pointed out by poornima_govil the age at which women conceive is a cause of increase in twin-pregnancies. Fraternal twins which is most common occur when two separate eggs are fertilized by two different sperms. After the age of 30, hormonal changes may cause more than one egg to be released at a time. This increases the chances of fraternal twins.
