copper t seems to be most popular contraception method.
how complex is the operation? are there major risks with the operation?
i am very very scared of any operation.
it doesn't have any known risks that are common.
There is definitely some risk of infection. doctor will call you after the surgery for checkup to see that copper t has settled well. sometime it doesn't suit some people. and then there is risk of infection. but the doctor will monitor so it should not be a problem.

you don't need any operation for copper T. i don't know who told you about operation needed for copper T.
its a very simple 2-3 steps process. They setup copper T and then insert it using hand. They just have to press little to make it in shape of T at the end, which blocks from pregnancy. after that they leave it there and you are done. its a 5 minutes job leaving aside the preparation, sterlization, etc.
I did start using copper T but for me it was a nightmare. I got some infection and they I had to get it removed. Now I am using pills.
though not common but there are certain risks on top of infection.
one of them is that in case you get pregnant while using copper T then the foetus may get implanted in one of the fallopian tubes instead of womb. Chances of miscarriage is very high in this case.
During the first few months of using copper T you should expect more irregular periods. this however gets better later.
I did use copper T for about 5 years during that time I kept having spottings in between periods in the beginning I got worried but later I came to know that it was common with most women using copper T.
make sure that you get properly checked that you are not pregnant.
doctors will take some of these precautions. but its good to be aware.

i won't say very common. but there is a possibility and you need to be alert if you are using copper T.
watch out for any delay in period and response fast. i have come across one such example.

I am not sure about the percentage of women getting pregnant even on using copper T but recently a friend of mine who is using copper went for a test for pregnancy because of delayed period and the doctor their told that she has come across a lot of cases of tubal pregnancy for women using copper T.
