What kind of meternity leave am I entitled to?

I am in my 3rd trimester and I am trying to inquire what maternity leave will I get if I do apply for one. The HR in my office said she will be able to give me 2.5 months of leave. But one of my friend got 6 months of maternity leave. Why is there such a difference. Legally how long can I go on maternity leave?
I took 6 months of leave. I am not sure about the legal thing but my company gives upto 6 months of maternity leave.
Most organisations in India gives 3 months maternity leave but many a time it can be extended upto 1 year. This is totally dependent on the particular organisation's HR policy.
It will be better to talk to your HR regarding this.
I took an year off. And my company was really good at offering me this long leave on request.
Most of the companies stick to 3-6 months of leave it depends on what kind of job you are in. And how flexible your company is about leaves.
