I am in the 40th week of pregnancy and still no signs of labor. Yesterday I visited my doctor and she said that she will wait for one more week for natural labor. After that she will induce labor.
I am really not aware of what induced labour is and how is it done. Can anyone here tell me about it.

Mostly women get natural labor but if their are some complications or is the birth of the baby is delayed and the doctor finds it that the baby should be delivered labor is induced artificially.

There are ways to induce labor -
1) Some hormone like substance which simulates uterine contraction, is inserted in the vagina.
2) In another method the doctor separates the membrane surrounding the baby from the cervix.

I know about these 2 methods as my doctor discussed with me when I was expecting my baby.

Its good to get the information about induced labour but its always better to do as suggested by your doctor. Depending on your condition doctor will suggest the right thing.

In my case since my pregnancy went in 42nd week without labour I did ask my doctor to try inducing labour but after checking my cervix he suggested me to go for c section.

Many times due to health reasons labor is induced. For my first delivery labour was induced for me as my water broke and did not go in labour.

Doctor used the membrane sweep method for me and actually I had to go through 2 cycles of membrane sweep before I went in labour.
