I am wondering till what extent an ultrasound is helpful during pregnancy. I have just started my third trimester. Till now I have been through 2 ultrasounds. Now the doctor is saying I have to go through a few more ultrasounds.
Wondering till what extent are these ultrasounds helpful? In a normal case of pregnancy should we go for so many ultrasounds? Our elders do not suggest so.
Ultrasound helps your doctor in keeping track of the proper development of your fetus. If there is any gaps the doctor will come to know at the earliest and take proper actions. And in my knowledge there is no harm in getting ultrasounds done. So, why not.
Definitely its a costly test and if finances are your concern then you can discuss with your doctor at what time ultrasounds are really needed and do the same.
During my pregnancy I had quite a few ultrasounds but it always gave me confidence about the well being of my baby.
For my first pregnancy I just had one ultrasound towards the end of pregnancy. Slowly doctors are going on increasing the number of ultrasounds but I do not understand the significance until and unless there is some complication.
Mostly ultrasounds are done in the third trimester to check the proper growth of the baby. level of amniotic fluid and the position of the baby. Many a times doctor may have a doubt about the proper growth of the baby and he suggests ultrasound.
Sometimes the baby may stay in the breech position late in the pregnancy and doctor would need to decide on whether to go for C-section in which case he may suggest an ultrasound.
