How long does a pregnancy last ?

I am 38 weeks pregnant and mostly I have heard that baby is delivered by 40th week. But I am just wondering what is the maximum duration does the pregnancy last?
In my knowledge the maximum time for which doctors wait before induction or c-section is till 42nd week.
My daughter was born in the 42nd week. My doctor found it right to wait till that time.
I have heard of cases when pregnancy has lasted upto 11 months.

One of my cousin's pregnancy went upto 11 months.
11 months!! GOD I cannot wait for so long
My pregnancy was 39 weeks. But my doctor always told me that we can wait till 41 weeks for normal delivery.
Now doctors don't suggest to wait for more than 41 weeks. If one does not have a normal delivery by the 41st week then doctors suggest to go for c-section.
I cannot wait for so long. My due date is nearing hope things go on time.
My first son was born in the 43rd week of pregnancy. I wanted to have a normal delivery so I waited. But definitely under doctor's guidance.
