I am 17 weeks pregnant and my gynaec has asked me to get a Triple Screen Test done before 20 weeks. I remember in my first pregnancy I did not get any such test done. My gynaec told me that this test is mainly done to check for any chromosomal abnormality in the baby to be born.

I am really wondering if this test is a necessity. I am not interested in taking the test so should I simply say no.

Its totally your choice if you want to get the test done. Mostly the chances of chromosomal abnormalities increase if a woman conceives after 30. Then its highly recommended by doctors to get this done.

I got this test done as I wanted to have a healthy baby.

There is no harm in getting this test done as its similar to any other blood test. And if some doubt arises in this test you can go ahead with furthur test like Amniocentesis that has a higher reliability.

I did get the test done and thankfully everything was fine and did not have to go through any other tests.

If technology is providing a test which can help me take some important decisions about my baby to be born. Why not take the test. I did take it and will suggest others to do so.

if you feel comfortable in all way then you don't have to. after all percentage of people going for such tests are very low.

one of my sister lives in Singapore. and she said that every week or other she used to get some tests done. one of the test done at around 20 weeks was very expensive. but most of the people over there do it.
