I am 36 years old and am in the 10th week of pregnancy. My doctor has suggested me to take CVS test. I have not heard of anyone going through this test. As the doctor said that this test is mainly done to find if there is some chromosomal disorder in the baby.

I am wondering if this test is necessary. And what could be the benefits of this test. Are there any risks involved in taking this test?

CVS is mainly done to detect any disorders like Downs Syndrome etc. And it is helpful for the moms to be to decide whether to have the baby or not with severe disorder. Its mostly useful if you conceive after the age of 35.

i think this is something to do with baby's development while in womb. whether it is normal and expected or not.

From my knowledge this test is mainly done to check for chromosomal disorder and in this test a needle is inserted near near the uterus, through vagina. One of my friend staying in US went through test. She told me this test has a risk for causing miscarriage or limb deformities in the baby.

So, before going for this test please think twice.
