There is a history of diabetes in our family and I have heard that in such cases there are chances of developing diabetes during pregnancy. I am in the 2nd trimester of my pregnancy so should I get some test done for diabetes.
If so what is the test and when is it done?

I do not know about the exact test. But in the very beginning of my pregnancy my gynae asked me if I have a family history of diabetes and explained me that if it is so I may have to get some tests done.

I will suggest u to consult your gynae.

Mostly if there is a family history or diabetes or you are overweight at the time of pregnancy then you are at risk of having gestational diabetes.

You should consult your doctor and depending on your input he may suggest you to get your blood sugar level tested. Depending on the result of this test the doctor may suggest you further.

Gestational diabetes is a type of diabetes that some women develop during pregnancy. Since this form of diabetes often has no symptoms, almost all pregnant women are given a glucose screening to test for it between weeks 24 - 28. However, if you're at high risk for diabetes you will be recommended this screening test at your first prenatal visit and then again at 24 to 28 weeks.
