I have recently come to know that I am pregnant and am all exited and confused. After my visit to doctor and talking to friends I have been suggested many tests at different levels of pregnancy. Can the moms/moms-to-be out here suggest what all tests are required and really worth it.

At my first visit to the doctor after I found that I am pregnant I had to get blood test done for Rh factor, Hepatitis B, HIV, Rubella, HCG . I got pap smear also done.

In addition to the tests mentioned by honey bee I went through the following test some time back.

At around 20 weeks of pregnancy, a triple screen test is done to test for birth defects like some chromosomal defects and open neural tube.

Some tests are also done to get to know about baby's risk for Down's syndrome. Though these tests are not compulsory but you can get it done if your are pregnant at more than 30 years of age.
Some of these tests are:
1. Nuchal Translucency Scan - between 10-14 weeks
2. Triple Test & Scan - between 15 -22 weeks
3. Amniocentesis - between 14 - 1 weeks (Should be done only if some risks are found in other 2 tests)

Hey ladies,
I see thr r again so many tests that u have recommended which might confuse the already confused goingtobemom. I suggest you start with the first trimester and mention the tests in order of relevance. Just my views. Please don't mind Smile. I am sorry I cannot help as technology is more advanced since the time I was pregnant.
