I am in the 28th week of my pregnancy and doctor has told me that I need to keep a check for that. Doctor has done some tests. But I really want to be well informed. In what cases there are chances of getting Gestational Diabetes and what tests help in the diagnosis. Any information will be really helpful.

Gestational Diabetes starts halfway of the pregnancy. Mostly Oral Glucose Tolerance Test is done between 24 to 28 weeks of pregnancy.

Have a control on your diet and follow your doctor's instructions regarding your diet. Keep monitoring your weight and do exercise after your doctor's permission. Keep monitoring your blood sugar levels 4 times in a day.

For me controlled diet and exercise was helpful.

There are two tests for screening Gestational Diabetes
1. Oral Glucose Tolerance Test
This is a routine checkup for all pregnant woman. If some abnormality shows up in this test then one has to go through other test to confirm for Gestational Diabetes.

2. 3-Hour Glucose Tolerance Test
This test is done in case any abnormality is found in the Oral Glucose Tolerance Test. And this test can only confirm the or rule out Gestational Diabetes.
